The main objectives of the Society are:
1. To bring into light the knowledge of the society, economy, polity and culture of Eastern-India and as far as possible of India as a whole.
2. To encourage studies in social sciences.
3. To disseminate the knowledge of social sciences through the publications of journals, books and organizations of seminars, debates and talk-shows.
4. To impart education to students belonging to marginalized society and peripheral areas.
5. To make people aware of the socio-religious and socio-cultural superstitions still lingering in our society to the effect of gradual socio-cultural change and progress.
6. To make people aware of other social ills and evils including human-trafficking.
7. To establish, start, aid, run, maintain and manage Schools, Libraries and Health Centres for the benefit of the public.
8. To find-out the reality behind various socio-anthropological and political problems.
9. To carry on social welfare activities including mass education.
10. To publish two Research Journals, one in Bengali and the other in English.
11. To arrange and organize lectures, debates, discussions, seminars and excursions for the diffusion of knowledge.
12. To promote joint ventures of multidisciplinary research. ** The functions and objects of the society shall always remain restricted within the meaning of the Section 4(2) of the WEST BENGAL Societies Registration Ac, 1961, irrespective of any objects mentioned above. Activities will not be undertaken without missions other than philanthropy and that will in no way be tantamount to running business activities with the motivation of profit.
